Bassnectar‘s newest EP Freestyle (Amorphous Music) is out and we couldn’t be more excited!
The title track feat. Angel Haze is heavy on vocal samples and utterly indefinable in genre. Trapglichrapstep? Sure. Are you going to “hit that beat” either way? Yes. Prepare yourself now for a space ride to the future with this next one, my friend. Alongside DC Breaks, “Breathless” feat. Mimi Page really showcases Bassnectar’s talent for sampling finesse in this futuristic medium.
If “Breathless” was the journey then “Hologram”is the apparent destination. While here you cleanse your mind in the “digital baths” of the host planet and decide you never want to leave.
“Infinite” seems at first to satisfy this desire with the continuation of otherworldly sonorities but familiar dubstep roots soon begin to beckon you home.
Zion I returns us there with “Human” (the Bassnectar remix). You, like Zion I, are clearly beings of this world but nonetheless, the flow is strong in this track. Amp Live & Eligh’s “Ego Killer” (the Bassnectar and Timeline remix) includes elements from every track you heard on your journey while simultaneously beating down any thought your ego ever had of wishing to move to Pandora
